Upgrade speakers in Jaguar F-Type

ftype door speakers

How to upgrade the factory original speakers in a MY2016 Jaguar F-Type.

The F-Type came with the standard 380W Meridian audio system. It wasn’t great. Folks online have been swapping the speakers for better ones from other Jaguar models which share the same fittings and connectors. Here’s how.

Step 1: Order parts & tools

To source the replacement speakers I used EBay and BritCar.

Tweeter - AW93-18808-AC

  • Original Door Tweeter Speaker = BJ32-18808-AC
  • Upgraded Door Tweeter Speaker = AW93-18808-AC (C2D30486, C2D30486 are alternative part numbers)

Mid - AW93-18808-BC

  • Original Door Mid Speaker = BJ32-18808-BB
  • Upgraded Door Mid Speaker = AW93-18808-BC (C2D2076, C2Z3438 are alternatives)

Bass - CPLA-18808-FB

  • Original Door Bass Speaker = CPLA-18808-DB
  • Upgraded Door Bass Speaker = CPLA-18808-FB (C2D24861, LR047119 are alternatives)

Tools

  • Torx T20 screwdriver
  • Torx T30 screwdriver
  • Door Trim Release Pliers Car Clip Removal Tool (most useful component in a Car Trim Removal kit I used)

Step 2: Remove door car

There’s a few options available on eBay and Amazon. I picked the one from UK firm Unique Auto Developments. With a few mails back and forth to confirm which wiring loom would be required for my car (Bose/Harmon/SIM card slot seem to be the variables) they quickly shipped the right kit with good clear printed out instructions.

Step 3: Add sound isolation

There are a few alternatives but in the UK I used Dodomat. This is high density (heavy) vinyl with aluminum backing. It’s very flexible and has a sticky backing. Easy to cut to shape and push into the car door inner frame and back of the door card.

Step 4: Screw everything back together again

The Door Trim Release Pliers were useful for removing some pegs that were left in door frame and needed to be put back on the door card before pushing the door car and it’s fixing pegs back into the door. A couple of tabs on the window trim had moved and needed to be realigned with slots in the door card. If you forget to reconnect the inside door handles, you’ll won’t be able to get out of the car from inside, guess how I know.
